What are Veggies?

Vegetable, veggies are parts of plants that people and many animal eat.
They contain nutrients that help us stay healthy.
Humans started gathering wild veggies around 10,000 years ago, and farming them began shortly after, during the Agricultural Revolution.
For thousands of years
Veggies have been an essential part of our diet!
Are Veggies Really Good for Us?

Veggies have vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants that help keep us healthy.
Antioxidant vitamins like A, C, and E protect us from getting sick or feeling weak.
Most importantly, veggies are full of dietary fiber, which keeps our digestion smooth and supports a healthy gut.
Veggies are low in calories but high in fiber, making you feel full longer, which helps prevent overeating.

Veggies have limited nutrients

Veggies are super healthy but they don’t have everything we need:
Protein: Veggies don’t have as much protein as meat
Vitamin B12: This vitamin is only in animal foods, not veggies.
Iron and Zinc: Veggies have some, but our bodies absorb it better from meat.
Calories: Veggies are low in calories, so they don’t give much energy.
To stay healthy, eat a variety of foods like fruits, proteins, grains, and dairy—not just veggies!
